First Holy Communion

The Eucharist is ‘the source and summit of the Christian life.’ The other sacraments, [and indeed all other aspects of the Church’s life], are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself’ - CCC 1324.

Reception of the Eucharist for the first time completes a person’s initiation into the Christian life through the Sacraments of Initiation. Children typically make their First Holy Communion around the age of 7, following a period of preparation both in the parish and at school.

If your child is in Year 3 at St. Fidelis school she/he can be prepared within the school. For children who are not in St. Fidelis, there is a parish preparation programme, which usually begins in January and concludes with the reception of the sacrament in May. Please see the program details below.
