Bereavement Listening Support

Welcome to Our Lady of the Angels Bereavement Listening Support Group. Coping with death and bereavement in our society can be a lonely and bewildering experience.

Although grief is a very personal thing, it can sometimes be helpful to talk to others who are in a similar situation.

Our Bereavement Support Group aims to provide this in a comfortable, supportive environment. Our volunteers are trained in listening to the bereaved, and have been DBS checked.

Our sessions will be rooted in Christian faith and the love of Christ. Whether your loss is recent or long ago, we welcome you with open hearts.

The group consists a maximum of four participants, supported by two volunteers and one priest. It is not one-to-one counselling but provides an opportunity for you to talk freely about your loss and perhaps by listening and sharing your experience with others.

Sessions will start with a welcome, followed by a reflection through Scripture and prayer. There will then be the opportunity to share and listen to one another’s experiences of bereavement.

Before each session, ‘ground rules’ will be set to ensure confidentiality and address expectations for the group.  There will also be an opportunity for informal chats over the tea/coffee break.

At the end of each session, there will be an opportunity to feed back your experiences through anonymous feedback.
